I’m Penny Hawes. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my best friend, O’Malley (shown with me to the left), and reading. Reading horse books while lying draped along O’Malley’s warm back while she grazed was pretty much as good as it got.

After graduating high school, 4-H, and US Pony Club, I went to England and earned my British Horse Society Assistant Instructor’s Certificate,  and met my husband, James.

We opened our first boarding and training barn after returning to the US in the mid 1980s, and I’ve been professionally involved in the horse industry ever since, most recently as a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemen International (PATH Int’l) Registered Instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.

As a freelance writer who’s also a professional equestrian, I’m able to offer horse business owners a unique skillset unmatched by most writers.
